What To Wear On A Rainy Day

What to wear on a rainy day? For those of us that want to stay dry in style, it’s a question we’ll all have asked ourselves on numerous occasions. Especially in Britain, as no matter what the forecast says, there’s always a chance Mother Nature might get up to a little mischief.

In Britain it’s always a good idea to have a raincoat and pair of wellies by the door (or stashed in the boot) in case of a rainy day emergency. These essential pieces are also the foundation for rafts of rainy day outfits.

Of course, the best way to stay dry in the rain is to not go outside at all, but sometimes staying indoors, listening to the sound of the rain on the window, curled up on the sofa, in front of the fire with a good book (we’re getting cosy just thinking about it) just isn’t possible. There’s shopping to be done, leaves to be swept, children to take - and then collect - from school. So at the very least, we all need at least one decent waterproof coat nearby - at all times.

So if we can’t stay inside forever, we should probably work out exactly how to stay dry in the rain, in style. Obviously the best outfit for a rainy day will involve wellies and raincoat (a classic choice is always a black raincoat and a pair of black wellies - they’ll go with anything) but other elements can have an affect on the attire we choose.

What To Wear On A Cold Rainy Day?

Two things that no one likes together (or maybe only a few people) cold and rain is a combination akin to pineapple and pizza, or roadworks and the drive home. However, a cold rainy day can be made a little better by layers. Lots of layers. A quarter zip sweatshirt is a great place to start and if the mercury is hovering around zero, it might be a good idea to reach for a gilet, too. Then, before dashing out into the freezing drizzle (lovely) pull on your wellies and a raincoat and you’ll be ready to outwit the weather in feel-good style.

What To Wear On A Rainy Day in Summer?

It’s the middle of July. You’ve planned a picnic, maybe it was a BBQ, or perhaps you’ve got tickets to a festival. Either way it’s outside and of course, being the middle of summer, it will rain. Obviously we’ll never let a little bad weather get in the way of our plans, so we’ll need rainy summer day outfits that are both stylish and practical. A pair of women’s ankle wellies are a great alternative for the warmer months of the year, and when worn with a striped dress and navy raincoat, will give you an effortlessly good-looking ensemble to add alongside your other outfits to wear on rainy days. So no matter whether you’re dashing from the kitchen to the summer house, sizzling ribs in a shower (not ‘the’ shower, don’t do that) or dancing your socks off (with your wellies on) at a festival, it’s always a good idea to have a few outfits to wear on rainy days.
