Welly Fit Guide

WELLY FIT

guide

Everyone’s a little different, so if you’re looking to pick up a new pair of women’s wellies, it’s important to put your best foot forward when it comes to the size and the fit. Size can also be an issue when it comes to all footwear, but especially wellies. Should you size up or down? And what if you want to wear a thick pair of socks? Well worry no more. Our Welly Fit Guide has the answers.

WOMEN'S WELLIES MEN'S WELLIES

How should wellies fit?

As with any item of clothing, you’ll want your wellington boots to be comfortable. You don’t want to get halfway through walking the dog, only to find your heel rubbing and hurting. Or, finding your feet are getting cold because your wellies are too small - you want just the right amount of air around your feet in your wellies to act as insulation.

So, how should your wellies fit? The answer is ‘perfectly’. However we should add that if you’re looking at wellies with a neoprene lining (a neoprene lining adds a superior layer of warmth and comfort) then the fit might be more snug. Always make sure your wellies aren’t too tight and that you have a little room between your toes and the front of the welly. And make sure that you have enough room around the top of the welly to tuck in your trousers or jeans - if that’s your style.

Should you size up in wellies?

Do our wellies come up big? Or do our wellies come up small? And just what size wellies should I buy?  These are three questions you won’t be losing any sleep over, as you’ll be pleased to know that all of our wellington boots fit true to size (so just pick your usual shoe size). And with cold autumn and winter walks in mind, they’re all made to fit with a cosy and thick sock. But we must reinstate that the main thing here is your own comfort, as long as you’re comfortable, then that’s all that matters.

Do wellies stretch?

A lot of people ask ‘will my wellies stretch?’ or (even worse) ‘how to stretch wellington boots?’. Quite simply, our wellies won’t stretch and you shouldn’t try to stretch them. This would be as bad as venturing outdoors on a rainy day wearing canvas pumps. They’ll give a little bit, but not too much. And will have a small level of flexibility for comfort. But they won’t stretch. If you do require a little extra space - for tucking in trousers or jeans, perhaps - choose a pair of tall wellies that have an adjustable gusset.

Best Wellies For Wide Calves

For those of you with wide or athletic calves, mid-calf wellies will be a great choice, featuring an adjustable elastic gusset for the perfect fit. Our wellibobs (ankle wellies) will also be a good option if you want your wellies to feel a little less restricted, and they’re easy to get on and off, too. Popping a pair of Wellibobs by the door or in the boot is always a good idea.
