About Z Sparks and Daughters
Sparks and Daughters is a family run business, based in the British countryside, where they’ve been lovingly creating quality, personalised gifts and clothing from their Somerset studio for over a decade. Originally founded by Mother and Daughter duo Deborah and Verity Sparks, in 2019, Verity took over the running of the business, when Deborah retired. She, with husband Lex alongside her, now runs the business as Managing Director as well as raising their daughter Tilly.
Letter From Verity Sparks
Sparks and Daughters began when my Mum took a leap of faith. Feeling frustrated at work a lack of quality time for family and creative passions, she quit her office job and began making the very first Sparks and Daughters gifts on the kitchen table at home.
In those early days, I was still at secondary school, but was excited to be involved, always racing to finish my homework to help her with orders. Following a successful first year of business, we faced our greatest challenge yet when Mum learned that she had breast cancer. Rocked by that news as she was, she bravely decided to carry on running the business whilst undergoing treatment and I continued to support her through to her eventual recovery a year later.
Around the time that I began university, I became a partner in the business, juggling a degree in Textiles and Surface Design with keeping on top of customer orders and creating new products for our collection. Once my degree was complete, I committed myself full-time to the role of Co-Director.
Over the coming years our business grew and grew, as did our wonderful team and today we are still creating personalised gifts and clothing, not from the kitchen table, but our own studio in Somerset.
Our experiences as a family have directly influenced the kinds of gifts we create. For instance, when I became a mother to my daughter Tilly, it was at this time that we came up with our best-selling baby milestone blanket, which remains a customer favourite to this day.
We always strive to create the kinds of gifts that we would hope to receive ourselves, because we value the importance of family moments and milestones, big or small, delightful or difficult. This brings a direct connection with you, our customers. When you choose to buy from our small business, the gift you receive is truly made with love from our family to yours.
At the end of 2019 Mum retired and today, I am running Sparks and Daughters with my husband Lex, alongside me. We are excited for the future, with new milestones to design for and new illustrations to create, to celebrate the ones you love, in the moments that matter.
